Q is for Quilt

No wonder "Q" is worth so many points in Scrabble! It's hard to think of words that start with it. Some of the words the kids came up with were queen, quilt, question mark, and my favorite- "quallaby" (I think that might be a cross between a koala and a wallaby (-;). We practiced writing "Q" on chalkboards and realized that upper case "Q's" have a kickstand to keep them from rolling over. Lower case "q's" look a lot like a 9 and a backwards "p", unless you give it a tail.

Next we made paper quilts. We looked at a book that had lots of different quilt patterns. Then we worked on piecing our own quilts making sure our pieces fit tight together so there wouldn't be holes in our quilts. Patterns were thrown to the wind!

We had quesadillas for snacks and talked about how we borrow words from other languages and sometimes their letters don't make the same sounds as they do in English.

Thanks! This was a big help for me. I have to host "q" tomorrow!
