FIELD TRIP!

On Wednesday we had our first field trip of the school year.  Since our theme was health and nutrition, I chose to have the kids participate in "behind the scenes" tour of our local Safeway!  Christine was wonderful and offered to help me out and it was a relief!  We walked the four blocks to the store with the six kiddos telling all kinds of stories and excited for our special trip.

Mr. Steve, the store manager was wonderful with the kids. Our first stop was UPSTAIRS to his office where the kids could look out the "secret windows" at the entire store.  They thought it was pretty cool!

Each of the kids had an opportunity to be a "checker" and scan some cheetos at the register.

They had a yummy cheese sample at the deli, donut sample from the bakery and fruit leather from the produce manager.

They even experienced the cold temperature of the big freezer room.  NOT everyone went in. Zane was the first brave one with Mia and Ella following.

They were amazing by the giant box smasher!

Then, it was FINALLY time to go shopping!  Each of the kids had their own shopping list and crayon.  We had four items to purchase and they did a great job!  Together, we had to find grapes, carrots, apple juice and animal crackers.

I think they may have been more excited to BUY the groceries.  I gave them each a one dollar and they did a wonderful job with buying our snacks for the day.

Christine read them the book "good enough to eat" while I prepared the snack.  Animal cookies were the substitute for animal crackers and not very "healthy" but boy are they yummy!  It was a good opportunity to talk about the importance of eating more "good" food for your body and sometimes "bad" food were okay.

They had a good time with a sorting activity.  I passed around the bucket with all kinds of food inside.  They had to grab one, without looking, and put it in a "good for you pile" or "not good for you pile".  It was funny that they wanted to put french frieds in the "middle" because potatoes are good for you but fries are not so much.
We took Friday off because I had to be in Denver for the weekend but we did a good job of cramming a lot of activities into our two days!

N is for NEST and CIRCLES

Ella hosted preschool this week at her house and we had a great time!
Our letter was N.
Shape was a CIRCLE and our
theme was HEALTH and NUTRITION.

On Monday we focused mainly on the letter N and circles.  The kids enjoy their worksheets and they make great progress each time they try the new letters.

For our craft we incorporated both our letter and our shape.  First, the kids colored tongue depressors.  Then, we used paint and different sized circle items to create their art.  They had fun using the top of a water bottle, toilet paper roll, the top of a paper cup and also the bottom of a paper cup.  When they were finished painting I helped them glue their sticks onto the paper to look like an "N".  They had a great time!

Trying to keep with the "health and nutrition" them, we had delicious fruits for snack...
cut into circles!  *clever, right?*  ha ha

However, we were not as healthy with the chocolate Nests.
Oh, they were so yummy though!

They enjoyed eating their snacks outside, running around and being silly while we waited for moms to arrive.
While they were running I kept hearing, "N" says nnnnnnn....." over and over.  Adorable.
