"E" and Elephant
Our new chalkboards were dry on Friday, so we got to try them out for the first time. We doodled on them lots and practiced writing "E"s. We wanted to take our elephant pictures home to show our families, so we hurried to finish coloring and cutting out the shapes and gluing them on to make the elephant. We made a fun trunk to put on our picture by learning how to fold two strips of paper back and forth over the top of each other. I think the biggest hit of Joy School at the Jones house though, was playing with the kitties at the end of each day!
Chalkboards, Elephants, and Happy Birthday Bryn!
We started Wednesday out by painting our chalkboards. Next we practiced the letter "e" again, then read a story about riding an elephant to school which got lots of laughs. Anxious to practice the rest of our hands-on preschool skills, we colored and cut out pieces for our elephant pictures. We finished off the day by singing "Happy Birthday" to Bryn and eating cupcakes.

E's and Elephants
On Monday we worked a lot on the letter of the week- "E". We talked about the different sounds that it makes. Then we had an activity where the kids got to choose an object out of a bowl full of objects that started with the letter "e" and figure out if it made the long or short "e" sound. They are starting to be able to hear the difference. Then we worked on writing "E" and "e" and talked about why we have two different ways to write each letter. They did really well writing upper case "E"s and were doing their best trying to master the lower case- they are hard! Next we read a story about our theme- elephants, and then pretended to be elephants by eating peanuts (and since I know a certain child that doesn't like peanuts, we had circus peanuts too.)
